Spinnaker is a firm with a global presence, situated in Leigh-on-Sea; and this means London pay by the coast. It’s the perfect combination of a progressing your career but without the commute into the City.
We’ve been dealing with clients across the world since 1997, so mention our name in Singapore, New Jersey, Geneva or Kazakhstan, and you’ll realise just how far we’ve put our stamp.
We know how important it is when taking the next step in your career, and here at Spinnaker we pride ourselves on championing personal development, quality, growth and a sense of community.
Leigh-on-Sea, a town in the borough of Southend-on-Sea, was named one of the ‘Top 30 Coolest Places in Britain to Live’ in the Times newspaper in 2013, and not without reason. A vibrant fishing town, Leigh is buzzing with independent businesses, boutiques, cafes and parks, with several beaches close by.
There is also a great cultural heritage to the area, with music festivals, a film festival, and an annual Art Trail that combine to provide a sense of cultural community.
Spinnaker’s proximity to the coast means we have a great connection to the Thames Estuary, which sees container ships and cargo vessels sailing by on a daily basis. As a shipping recruitment agency, being so close so ports such as the London Gateway, it puts our work into context.
Our brand new office is a really exciting development for Spinnaker; our third office in 15 years and definitely our biggest to date! We’re continually growing and expanding, and our lovely big office reflects this.
Hiring and retaining the right personnel is something we face on a daily basis when dealing with clients. We know that people are career minded and the sheer choice of different employment options makes the search for good people more competitive than ever before. Although we are helping clients address these issues on a daily basis, it is a major challenge for us as well.
Our managers strive to engage each person to perform at their best and create a place they want to stay. We conduct weekly one-to-one dialogues and periodic appraisals. In turn, employees are given the freedom to take responsibility and accountability and are expected to communicate and feedback freely, openly and honestly to their managers.
We aim to foster a fun yet productive working environment. We provide training and a defined career path, and we try to set challenging yet realistic and achievable goals in order to keep everyone focused. Yet often, it is the fun things that keep people in a role long term. Taking an interest in people on a professional and personal level, arranging social events, and internal competitions are all ways to contribute to promoting the work life balance that people appreciate.
New recruits benefit from a full induction programme with our dedicated Training Manager, which provides them with the knowledge and skills training required to successfully carry out their role and enable them to become productive, self-confident and successful from the earliest opportunity. The programme includes a variety of external and internal training provision.
We provide two streams of trainee schemes, tailored to the individual’s experience, and full training programmes for all staff no matter what their background.
We endeavour to give all staff equal opportunity to develop within their current role or into new positions.
We provide a Management Development Programme to support our policy of internal promotion and to ensure that everyone is being managed effectively.
It is widely recognised that organisations investing in people training are valued far more highly by their employees than those that compete on salary alone. All consultants undergo fully-funded training for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s Foundation Award in Recruitment Practice and the Company pays for membership to the REC for individuals who successfully gain the qualification.
We provide a structured annual programme of in-house and external recruitment training at both group and individual level and all members of our recruitment teams receive specific shipping training tailored to their needs. We have partnered with recruitment and customer service training specialists Lander Associates since 2003 and they have been an integral part of our success.
We like to celebrate our successes, incentivise everyone to perform to their best, and recognise and reward individuals and teams for good performance. We run a number of Incentive Schemes including Employee of the Year, a Quarterly Competition and bonuses for introducing new recruits to Spinnaker.
In addition to competitive pay and an uncapped commission structure for consultants, Spinnaker provides a wide range of financial and non-financial benefits which are offered to all employees irrespective of their position:
