It may
sound obvious but before beginning your job search, give serious
thought to what you want to do, where you
want to/are prepared to do it and what your minimum
requirements are in terms of salary/package.
Once you have decided on the type of role you are looking
for, the next step is to find it. The three main methods for
job hunting are
1) to register with recruitment consultancies
that specialise in your area of expertise,
2) look for job
advertisements on the internet and in relevant publications,
3) target and approach companies yourself that you would like
to work for.
When applying to recruitment consultants, remember that they
represent employers and so will making the same evaluations
and judgments about you as employers do. Remember also that
the recruitment consultant’s job is to provide their
client with a shortlist of high quality candidates who match
the specification required by the client.
Your application to employers and recruitment consultants
should therefore be the same: Make sure that you have the requested
experience. Draft a covering letter explaining why you are
suitable for the job. Address the items listed in the job advert
/ specification and answer the questions asked. And, if you
gain new experience or your contact details change, let the
consultant know.
Reputable recruitment consultants comply with data protection
and employment agency legislation and will only submit you
for vacancies after briefing you on the vacancy and establishing
your suitability and interest. Your CV should never be sent
to anyone unless you have applied for a particular vacancy
or have otherwise given your approval.

If you click on a position and it appears in a separate window
this means that consultants have no involvement
in the recruitment process – our clients are simply using
